Addressing the Retrieval Problem in Large Knowledge Bases

چکیده

Research currently in progress at the University of Bielefeld is concerned with conceptualizing a methodological framework which allows large-scale knowledge bases to be constructed, utilized and maintained in a modular fashion. Challenges to be met span from the modular conception of domain knowledge in a given application area on the one hand to the adaption of principles for modular system development to knowledgebased systems on the other. Important aspects of this work are to make expert system knowledge bases more easily comprehensible and maintainable, in particular, when several developers are involved or when long-term maintenance of a knowledge base is planned to be carried out by prospective users.

Mining Answers from Texts and Knowledge Bases: Our Position

Recent advances in question answering from text have shown that information retrieval, natural language processing and machine learning techniques can go a long way in retrieving answers to certain types of questions from large bodies of text. Questions requiring more reasoning and inference, or those whose answers require synthesis or explanation are more difficult. Systems that reason over do...

An Investigation of Marker-Passing Algorithms for Analogue Retrieval

If analogy and case-based reasoning systems are to scale up to very large case bases, it is important to analyze the various methods used for retrieving analogues to identify the features of the problem for which they are appropriate. This paper reports on one such analysis , a comparison of retrieval by marker passing or spreading activation in a semantic network with Knowledge-Directed Spread...

Redundancy Detection in Semistructured Case Bases

ÐWith the dramatic proliferation of case-based reasoning systems in commercial applications, many case bases are now becoming legacy systems. They represent a significant portion of an organization's assets, but they are large and difficult to maintain. One of the contributing factors is that these case bases are often large and yet unstructured or semistructured; they are represented in natura...

Relational Representation of Aln Knowledge Bases

The retrieval problem for a knowledge base O and a concept C is to find all individuals a such that O entails C(a). We describe a method to represent a knowledge base O as an instance Ô of a relational database. To answer a retrieval query over O, we can execute a corresponding database query over Ô. The main problem of such an embedding is that the semantics of knowledge bases is characterized...
